Hey foodilics,
Here is an easy and delicious breakfast recipe. For those of you wondering, churros are fried doughnut sticks that are of a crispy and (sometimes) chewy texture on the outside and soft on the inside. They are a very popular breakfast in Spain and in some latin American countries. You would have them dipped in a cup of thick melted chocolate sauce or sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon.
This wouldn’t be my first time making churros eventhough this time around i was short of ingredients and had to improvise a little. I didn’t have the correct utensil to shape my churros the traditional way and it only made sense to do with what i had using one of the smaller pieces of my measuring set to form little doughnut shapes before frying.
The ingredients and measurements i used for this recipe are as you can see on the pictures, except i used two cups of flours instead of one. The remaining ingredients were eggs, salt, sugar, vanilla flavouring, powder milk and sun flour oil as i didn’t have butter. I also mixed sugar and cinnamon and put aside to later sprinkle on the churros before serving.
The cooking process is straight forward. First you pour water in a pot with the same cup you will later use to measure flour and leave it to boil. *For my recipe i used two cups of flour and therefore two cups of water. To the boiling water add sugar, salt, milk and sunflower oil ( or butter) and stir until they all dissolve then remove the pot frim the heat, let it cool off a bit before adding, flour, vanilla flavouring, eggs and give everything a good mix until to get a soft and unified consistency.
While working on the mixture, you can put a good amount of cooking oil into a large pan allowing the oil to get really hot. Once your oil is well heated, shape your soft dough as desired and fry them till they are crispy brown. You should always reduce the head once you put the dough in the frying pan, this step would allow them to cook inside but also avoid reducing the heat too low as it would soak too much oil in the dough.
Once everything is ready, serve with sugar and cinnamon and a nice cup of tea or with some melted chocolate sauce or you can even have it on its own.
When i started frying mine, the aroma brought in so many unexpected guests to the point i was only left to enjoy a few. 😊
I hope you enjoy the recipe and highly recommend you to try it.
Let me know if you have done churros before and how you do yours.
Take care now.
